Get closer to the King of the Forest
ImageThis journey takes you close to the king of the forest, the Swedish Moose. You better watch your feet so he doesn´t step on your toes, it hurts. We visit Dalsland Moose Ranch, Ed, where we can take a close look at the mooses, have some coffee and visit their gift shop where you can buy almost anything with mooses on.

From there we drive to the Gäserud farmhouse, which is the oldest secular farmhouse in Dalsland that is still preserved. It was built in late 1600s. Many members of the parliament and priests have been born on this old family farm. There have also been authors, professors, musicians and artists in the family. Some of the more wellknown are the composers Wilhelm Pettersson Berger (1867-1942 born in Ed) and Wilhelm Stenhammar (1871-1927), author Anna-Maria Lenngren (1754-1817), Rosa Bågenholm Carlén, daughter of author Emelie Flygare Carlén, and artist George Suttner (born 1922.) The house contains more than 1400 objects, collected by the local history association, such as a 8-9000 year old pick.

After the guided tour at the farmhouse, lunch is waiting in the nice restaurant at one of the older hotels in the area, Hotel Carl XII, with an amazing view over Lake Stora Lee. After lunch is then time to walk around the village of Ed, to visit the folklore museum in the Karl XII Museum together and Eds MC and Motor Museum. Karl XII museum is the oldest building in the village of Ed, build in the 18th century. Stories say that the king Karl XII spent some nights in the old farmhouse but not all stories are true. Eds MC and Motor Museum contains 145 old motorcycles, chainsaws, boat engines, lawn movers and other old mashines. When you are tired of the museums, there is always room for an icecream in the village square before we enter the bus back to Mellerud.
