In August 2008, Dalsland is celebrating
Imagethe memories of the Emigration and the bonds to the Swedish Americans and USA. We invite you to join us!

Dalsland was the province where more than half of the population left to find a new life in America. The area was very poor and many people could not find a way to make a living on the small farms. Only one of the children in a family could inherit the land and the others had to find ways to make a living on their own. Many left for Norway to work and save money for a ticket to the promised land.

Dalsland of today is a beautiful area with many lakes, deep forests, green meadows and with another pace of time, more peaceful than that of big cities. Enjoy!

Background

Home Coming Year 2008 is the short name for a project, aiming at developing the tourism business in the rural areas of Dalsland. It works through initiating collaboration between single entrepreneurs, farmers and food producers, small businesses, NGO:s and voluntary organizations and travel agencies and tourist businesses. The main goal is to develop attractive experiences and travel options for Swedish Americans and people from other countries. The work weaves together the local culture and nature with emigration history to an experience where the visitor is invited to participate in its creation.
